Founded in 2015 by Macarthur local, Mathew Cox, Macarthur Solar (part of Macarthur Energy) is focused on helping our community understand the true value and benefits of installing solar panels on their home or business.
As an Endeavour Energy trained Electrician, Mat spent over 12 years working on the electricity network in the Campbelltown, Camden, Picton and Wollondilly shires and during this time he developed a passion for sustainable and renewable resources. As the household demand for solar energy grew, so did Mats desire to help friends, family and neighbours become more savvy with the way they consume power in their own homes.
In 2015, Mat took the scary leap to leave his full-time job and start up his very own solar panel sales and installation business from his home in Spring Farm. He was certified by the Clean Energy Council Australia as an Accredited solar panel installer and Accredited solar system designer and subcontracted to some of Australia’s largest solar energy companies to make ends meet.
During this process he learnt a lot about the way some businesses approached solar panel installations and was disappointed to find that in many cases, the focus was to sell unsuspecting customers the biggest system with the cheapest products and install in the quickest possible timeframe. This was of concern to Mat as some of his own neighbours had spent their hard-earned money on solar panel systems that were ineffective, inefficient and in some cases outright dangerous, posing a fire risk to the them and their families.
Mat saw an opportunity to educate and support locals on what good looks like when it comes to solar and educate that if they are going to invest in solar energy for their home, it should be with top quality products and premium craftsmanship when installing.
With this in mind, he began to network in the local area and shortly after picked up a handful of customers. He transformed his dining table into a temporary office for quoting and invoicing and cleared out his garage to stock full of solar panels as a makeshift warehouse for his solo installations.
The aim wasn’t to confuse customers with technical industry jargon, but to explain the benefits of solar and the difference it can make to the weekly household budget.
After working with several panel and inverter brands, he established a strong preference for Fronius, Enphase and Hyundai which he identified as having the best output; the least amount of customer call backs for faults; and longest manufacturer warranty. This gave Mathew the confidence to genuinely recommend a value-for-money solar panel system for home and business owners in the Macarthur area.
Today, Macarthur Solar has a team of 6 which proudly includes our very own installers. Our install team are required to undertake extensive training in end-to-end inverter and panel installation, and importantly are allocated enough time to achieve the attention to detail expected from every Macarthur Solar install.
We have a small warehouse based in Campbelltown and to-date have installed over 10,000 solar panels on homes and businesses in the Macarthur area.
